I Believe Educational Technology is...

These articles have me thinking more about what educational technology really is.  I really like how the articles break it down into different categories.  I found the history rather interesting.  I didn't realize how much technology played a role in our military back during World War II.  As I look at what educational technology involves through these articles, I see a teacher.  How are we suppose to learn about technology if no one is there to teach it to us.  The tools that we use in our classroom help our students to explore, analysis, evaluate, manage, and create.  Technology is there to enhance the learning process, to create life-long learners.  Our students use technology all the time.  We as teachers, need to include in our teaching a way for students to use technology for enhancing their learning.  They use it anyway so why fight it.

  1. I agree your point-- as teachers we need constant training to keep up with the kids. About 4 years ago my school brought in laptops to be used at every grade level...my first few years the kindergartners were as timid with them as I was. Now students enter school using them like it is every day business.

  2. I appreciate your recognition of teachers as self-taught teachers, aka life-long learners. We are obviously a motivated group of individuals, but I think about people in my building who refuse to move forward to build a stronger educational support for our students, and I am frustrated...everyone must be onboard and willing to change!
    Thanks for your comment!

  3. Interesting thoughts. How can schools give teachers the time they need to teach themselves? Do you see a way to provide those important resources and time to explore them?

  4. Christy,
I agree with your point about the importance of the teacher. It reminds me of the article Andrea shared in the student lounge this week. I bet you liked the quote about the music not being in the piano!
I myself feel more like a student than a teacher of technology at this point in my path so I am grateful to be learning from classmates as well as instructors.

  5. I agree that we should not fight against the fact that our students are already using so much technology. We need to take that love for technology and turn it into something great!
